Ultrasound for Fertility Concerns After Chlamydia - Is It Necessary?
QuestionI had a reply from you yesterday regarding me and my partner trying for a child for a while with no luck. I asked you yesterday if I could be infertile due to having chlamydia last year. I was treated with anti-biotics and was told my fertility wouldn't be affected because I didn't have the spotting. However, what I would like to ask now is whether an ultrasound scan would show any problems with my tubes from having chlamydia? and how would I go about getting one without going to my doctor first? I'm 22, with a 3 years old daughter by a previous partner, my last perod was 1st October 2005 and I live in the UK
AnswerAn ultrasound will not show problems with your tubes. In order to see if your tubes are patent (open), you will need a HSG (hysterosalpingogram) where dye is pushed through your tubes and we see if there is "fill and spill". If there is, then we know that the tubes are patent. I doubt that the Chalmydial infection caused infertility. You need to see a doctor first. Until you get the HSG, there is no way to be sure that your tubes are open.
