Unprotected Sex & Period: Pregnancy Risk Explained

Question
If I had unprotected sex on Janurary 7 and later that night I started my period.  The period was normal and when I woke up on Janurary 22 and started to throw up.  Is there a chance that I could be pregant even though I had my period for the month?

Answer
If you got your period, you are not pregnant. You cannot conceive on the day that you start your period. A period is actually the sloughing off of the inner wall of your uterus (where the fetus implants). If you had your period, you wold not develop a new endrometium for at least 14 days. Now, the bleeding that you had on January 7 may not have been your period. Not all bleeding is a period. When was the first day of your last period (in December)? If you got your period on January 7, you are due for your next period on February 3. If you do not get your period by February 10, take a pregnancy test and you will know for sure.
