Maintaining Weight After Breastfeeding: What to Expect

Question
HI I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF I WIL GAIN MY WEIGHT BACK THAT I LOST WHEN IAM DONE WEANING MY SON FROM BREASTFEEDING ?I PLAN ON DOING IT FOR AT LEAST A YEAR UNTIL MAY BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY JUNE 1ST 2007.WIL IT STAY OFF IAM SO HAPPY TO BE SKINNY AGAIN I DONT WANT TO GAIN IT BACK.THANK YOU.

Answer
As long as you eat caloric balance, meaning not too much or not too little, your body weight will remain the same.

Breast feeding for a year or more is a GREAT! idea. Not only for the superb nutrients that you provide your son, but also for his psychological development. Maintain the highest quality diet that you can. Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean protein sources, and abundant calcium rich foods like nonfat or low-fat milk and yogurt.

Be aware that as your son consumes more solid foods, and your breast milk becomes supplemental, that you will gradually make less milk, and so your daily calorie needs will taper off accordingly.
