B12 Injections and Cycle Regulation: A Personal Experience
QuestionHello,
I am writing to you regarding the B12 injections I have. I came off the pill nearly 2 years ago and for 14 months had no periods at all. Then I had them but they were 60 odd days apart. I have to have B12 injections every month and I have to admit that I haven't always taken then regularly which I think has been affecting my cycle. Last month, I took my injection exactly 28 days after the previous one and my period came exactly 28 days later. I did the same again this month but yet my period has not arrived yet, now 5 weeks have gone by. My husband and I are trying for a baby and I would like to know if the B12 injections could be affecting my ovulating or if they should be helping it? I did take a test a few days after my period was due and it was negative. I know that a low B12 can cause spina bifida etc if you get pregnant so I am trying to ensure to keep my injections regular now but how can I tell if I am ovulating? Thank you, Louise
AnswerDear Louise
This delay in menestruation is probably related to a delay in ovulation which is a frequent occurence after stopping hormonal contraceptives. Vitamin B12 does not help in this situation. What you really need is to make a proper diagnosis of anovulation and then start ovulation induction.
Good Luck
