Recovering Muscle Strength & Sleep After Pregnancy: Expert Advice
QuestionHi Helene
I've been suffering since the last trimester in my last (3rd) pregnancy. I've been to physiotherapy and chiropractor and a sport medicine specialist. Followed instructions and exercise as per my physiotherapist and joined the gym to be back in shape but, other than fixing my diastases to an extent, I'm still not sleeping because of the muscle spasm that starts just after laying down that feels like it starts around belly bottom and spreads around my lower back and sides and then to mid back area. The muscle on the right side of rectus abd would be twitching and pain would last for about half an hour or more. When I was pregnant my dr thought its braxtonhix but my baby is about 1 year now and my symptoms are worsening. I feel like my back will break from the spasm every night though the exercise helped me sleep for about a week when we started but now its failing me. when go for my walks I feel like the cervix is digging in the side of my vagina though my dr says my uterus is not relapsed. I feel so heavy at the buttom of my tummy and feel lots of pressure on my knees. Please advise me for the best screening method and exercise. What do you think of kinesis? Is it going to be of help?
Please advise
I really don't know where else to go.
Thank you
AnswerYou symptoms are very unusual. I recommend a full medical screening to rule out any underlying undiagnosed condition that might be causing these spasms. If you get cleared medically, I'd then try to get a referral to a Chiropractor who specializes in prenatal and postpartum care. It's possible that you might have some kind of nerve impingement , or other problem, that is causing your pain.
