Levaquin and Early Pregnancy: Risks and Potential Effects
QuestionHi! I just found out I'm pregnant and at the time I conceived (not sure if just before or just after), I took a 3 day course of levaquin (500mg?). I've read that this is a class C drug and that it could potentially cause birth defects to a fetus. However, I am wondering what the likelihood is of any issues as a result of having taken it at time of conception? Could it be worse having taken it then, or potentially no effect?

The effect is really unpredictable. However; the worst effects occur during the period of organogenesis (formation of the baby's organs) which is at 5-8 weeks of pregnancy. It is best and actually a must, to consult your caring obstetrician so that he can estimate the exact pregnancy age by ultrasound.
Good Luck
