I found out that I am pregnant and I am very happy but I have started being very worried after the u/s scan on 28th August 07.
I calculated that on the day of the scan I must be around 8 weeks pregnant (1st day of last period 4th July 07). I have policystic ovaries which makes the situation more difficult and complicated.
The scan only shows a gestational sac with a yolk sac and fetal pole. The description says:
"Single intrauterine gestation sac with fetal pole identified. It is too early to demonstrate fetal pole. The size is probably 4+ weeks. "
This has shocked me a bit because it makes me think that it stopped growing at 5 weeks.
I forgot to mention that on the 23rd of July, 19 days after my last period which was on the 4th of July, I had 4 days of very very light bleeding like spotting. I thought that this was a period (used to the policystic ovaries and their problematic periods). If that was an actual period, then I am spot on 5 weeks pregnant on the day of the scan and I have no worries. It could be the case because 12 days after the ovulation of this light period I had one day spotting and this could be the implantation.
Could this extremely light period produce and egg? Maybe it is worth mentioning that while on my period on the 4th of July , I went swimming for the whole of the period week. Maybe this caused the light and early period. All this is so complicated. I have put the important dates below:
4 July normal period while on holiday, swimming while on period
18 July possibly ovulating, or maybe later because of policystic ovaries
23 July very light period, like spotting, lasted 4 days (19 days after the previous period)
6 August possible ovulation date
17 August light spotting for 1 day
no period after this.
took a home pregnancy test on the 25th August and it was positive
28 August internal u/s scan shows 4+ weeks pregnancy
There are two possibilities. I eiher calculated correctly and I am 7-8 weeks with a miscarriage on the way or I should be counting from the second period, the very very light one which makes me 5 weeks pregnant.
I would really appreciate your help because I am getting so worried that by the time I go for another scan in 10 days, stress will eventualy harm the baby.
I haven't even seen the doctor yet because there is a waiting list! I have to pay for the scans privately.

Wow, this really IS complicated! I can only advise you on what you have said so be aware that I'm not a medical practitioner!
It SOUNDS to me that you have miscalculated. As you said POS can send your system loopy, it sounds to me as if you've pretty much worked out that you could have in fact fallen pregnant later than you think. The key giveaways are the timings & dates of your scan, period (allbeit light & not on time, but thats explained by POS) & the spotting you had 11 days later - this sounds like implantation bleeding and it would be spot on with timing.
Try not to worry for now (I understand it's easier said than done!) & relax a little. Please don't make yourself ill over it. The harsh reality is that if anything is going to happen then theres nothing you can do to prevent or help it, but I'm confident you've nothing to worry about!
Just a small note to say that swimming is excellent excersize when pregnant and will in no way whatsoever harm your unborn child :)
