QuestionI was on depo for 3 years and got my last shot in April'07. I haven't had a period since then and had lots of pg tests come back negative. I felt pregnant and just had bad cramps yesterday that made my stomach hard to touch. I went to the restroom and was bleeding and passing clots(small)and some tissue passage. Could i have been pregnant and not known it? Today my stomach feels so soft and still cramping and bleeding.
AnswerHi Melissa
Because you haven't have periods for some time (amenorrhea) its very likely that you're not yet ovulating. A lot of women have found that their system takes quite a while to get back to normal after coming off of the injection, but if you're concerned you could always pop along to your medical care provider for a chat.
It is possible that you suffered a miscarriage, but the liklihood is you're experiencing break-through bleeding. The hardness you felt in your tummy was the muscles of your uterus contracting and most women experience small clots at some point.
I don't think you have anything to worry about, if it was a miscarriage (which I really think is unlikely) then it would be difficult to say for sure now anyway.
As this is your first bleed since coming off of your depo it's worth taking note of the date you started, your flow and the date you finished. Taking note of your bleeds will help you build up a pattern of your cycle. This will help you in the future if you encounter any problems or would like to try for a baby.
If you find that the bleeding gets worse (particularly if its accompanied by cramps), you develop a fever, discover an offensive smelling discharge then seek medical advice as soon as possible.
I hope this has helped you!
Kindest Regards
