Answer
Dear Miriam,
Based on the scenario you described, it is possible that you are pregnant. The home pregnancy tests aren't always accurate, especially if you take them close to when you usually get your period. Sometimes they're just defective, too.
The bleeding could have been implantation, which is when the fertilized egg implants in the wall of the uterus, and starts to grow. Sometimes, in the process, it bruises blood vessels in the wall of the uterus and causes light bleeding.
Unfortunately, it is also possible that it was an early miscarriage.
I would recommend that you see your midwife, or even your regular doctor, too, and ask him/her for a prescription for bloodwork to test for pregnancy and hormone levels, to clarify what's happening.
Please feel free to ask more.
Best of luck,
Sheva
