Antibiotics and Kidney Function Tests: Potential Interference

Question
I am supposed to take a blood test maybe urine test to see how my kidneys are functioning . How would antibiotics affect these tests?

Answer
Hi,

Please be advised that this is not a substitute for medical advice.  Your doctor is the best source of information and advice for your own specific health condition and treatment.

You don't say which specific antibiotic you are taking.

There have been interferences reported in specific kidney function tests such as creatinine if the patient is taking specific antibiotics, e.g.cephalosporins.

I would ask my doctor if there is a possibility of interferences in lab testing for kidney function testing associated with the specific antibiotic you are taking.
