QuestionAbout nine years ago when I was fifteen, I lost about twenty pounds through
restrictive eating and have not had a normal period since. Only by taking
birth control pills have my menstrual periods returned. I eat about 1,000 to
1200 calories a day and only weigh 100 pounds (about 15 pounds less than
the ideal weight for someone my height) and have remained this weight for
many years. My greatest fear is that by remaining this weight I will have
ruined my chances or ability to have children in the future. Is there a good
chance Clomid will help me? Should I be incredibly concerned, or are
treatments available that should be able to help me later on when I am at a
healthy weight and ready to have children?
AnswerDear Terrie,
Clomid can help if you don't ovulate regularly, which it sounds like you do not since you don't get regular periods. However, to sustain a healthy pregnancy, you need to make sure you're at a healthy weight and eating an appropriate amount of calories to make sure you're getting enough to sustain yourself and a baby, while getting the required nutrients and protein.
