QuestionOur son and daughter in law are considering using a surrogate mother to help in their quest in having a child. My daughter in law has had 6 miscarriages all in the early stages of pregnancy. I am 67 years of age and wonder if I could be of help to them as a surrogate mother. I have read of older women giving birth, obviously with medical help and wonder if this is a possibility. I am writing from the USA but am a british subject.
AnswerHello Barbara,
As long as your uterus and health are healthy, age is of no consequence for surrogacy. You could certainly be the surrogate. However, because of your age, you are at increased risk for obstetrical complications such as diabetes, hypertension, preeclamsia, c-section, etc. Before deciding to be the surrogate, you should probably consult with a perinatology (high risk obstetrician) to find out your exact risks. In terms of getting pregnant, the uterus does not age. Age is only important for the source of the embryo.
I hope this answers your question.
