Ovidrel & Ovulation Timing: Understanding Potential Variations

Question
I was wondering if there is a chance that a person might ovulate later then the 24-36 hours with ovidrel.  The only reason I am asking is because I was having small pains on my left side about 80 hours after shot, and was wondering if I could have been ovulating then.

Answer
Hello Suzy from the U.S.,

Giving ovidrel or HCG does not give a specific time line for ovulation.  It can occur anywhere from 24 to 52 hours.  It rarely takes 80 hrs, but this depends on the size of the follicle at the time the ovidrel was given.  The follicle has to reach a certain minimal size in order to ovulate.

I hope this answers your question.
