Safe & Effective Fitness for Knee Issues After 50

Question
I have been diagnosed with a torn meniscus (sp?)in my left knee, which is not painful unless turned the wrong way.  I would like to use the local (Gold's) fitness center but do not want to further injure my knee (surgery is a possibility but not a necessity so far).  Can you recommend certain equipment or exercises that I should stick to or stay away from?  Thank you.

Answer
Cheryl,

This forum does not allow for the diagnosis and treatment of illness or disease.  It is better left to an orthopaedic surgeon to advise on what exercises are to be avoided with respect to the knee.  It also will depend on the degree of the tear to the meniscus.  Physical therapists are also a good resource for this type of question.
