QuestionI am 59 years old, on armour thyroid 60mg./day. my hair is thinning, and skin is very dry and I have trouble concentrating. From your info, i realize i have been taking my thyroid incorrectly. so that may help, to correct the way i'm taking it. my question - at 21 and 22 years old, I experienced 2 seperate mini- strokes related to two different birth-control prescriptions. There was a black area of vision, head-ache the first time. went off the pill. a year later, gave birth and went back on another pill. shortly thereafter experienced traveling numbness, could only recognize the letter A. couldn't talk, couldn't tell time, would tell myself to do something, then would do the opposite.needless to say, that was the last time i took the pill. Presently i react to progesterone cream with sore breasts. should i ever consider bioidentical hormone replacement with my history and also strokes run in my father's family. Thank you so much as i have spent hours trying to find out over the net.
AnswerPhyllis,
The medical literature warns against synthetic and even bio-identical (natural) Estrogen HRT in your case. 2 previous CVAs would make you NOT a candidate. However, to lessen PMS you may try some non pharmaceuticals such as Red Clover, or Chasteberry, etc. (Fem Support formulas). They are mild and estrogenic but less a risk for hypercoagulability and CVA.
