HRT After Lumpectomy: Addressing Bone Density, Cholesterol & Sleep

Question
I had a lumpectomy in 1991.  No nodes involved, followed by radiation.  I have been fine, with clean follow-ups since then.  Yesterday I was told I had a -3 bone density rating.  I want to start on estrogen for my bones and also because my colostrol is 240 and I can not sleep.  For the one year that I did take estrogen I slept and felt much better.  But now my doc says no.  Am I being foolish.  Please help.

Answer
Breast cancer is stimulated by estrogen.  This is a known fact and the reason for your physician's concern given the history.  Discuss your discomfort and concerns regarding bone density with the physician.  If you are unhappy with the interaction, obtain a second opinion.
