QuestionGreetings, Dr. Aukerman. I am a 23 year old working professional. I have to use my voice a lot. However, pharyngolaryngitis from which I am suffering for years has greatly hampered my work and life. This winter, the situation is worse. My throat is always very dry and weird (I am at a loss finding the right word), despite that I drink a lot of water. A few mornings, I can't even utter a sound when I wake up. Some doctors say that pharyngolaryngitis is incurable. Does that mean that any treatment is useless? How can I alleviate my suffering? How likely is it that the disease might develop into cancer? I am feeling desperate. I understand that pharyngolaryngitis might not be your field of expertise, but I would appreciate your help. Many many thanks.
Yours
Erik
AnswerSome doctors say that pharyngolaryngitis is incurable. Does that mean that any treatment is useless?
Not really, try over the counter prilosec-OTC twice a day for 2 weeks, elevate the head of the bed permanently and avoid all spicy foods for 6 months if OK with your doctors.
How can I alleviate my suffering?
see above
How likely is it that the disease might develop into cancer?
While not likely at your age it is worth checking out with an ENT specialist is the above does not work.
