QuestionQUESTION: Am I wasting my time applying mederma and neosporin on chicken pox pits that i suffer from that are a result of the chicken pox I fell ill with 4 weeks ago. I don't really see any improvement and it seems like the products focus more on scars that are risen from the skin, not sunken into the skin, like the holes on my face. Plus when I apply the creams, it seems like it just lubricates the skin that was forming in that area and allows that to fall off, leaving me with the exact sma me pit that I had right after the scar fell off. My doctor thinks I should apply it religiously, but I'm starting to have my doubts, what do you think? Thanks!
ANSWER: Hi Nick,
With all due respect to your doctor, Neosporin is the worst thing that you can put on your skin (for any reason). Mederma only prolongs wound healing. It is best to let these lesions dry and they should leave without scars. Scars only come from repetetive scratching and picking at the scabs.

QUESTION: Thanks for the reply, but the scabs have already fallen off, but they left pits, and ironically, i did not scratch. But you do believe that if I let them alone, they will heal up quicker and not leave scars?
Thanks for the insight
AnswerHi Nick,
I would do nothing but keep them clean with normal bathing. Of course there is no guarantee that there won't be some scars regardless of what you do as it is the nature of the disease to leave some telltale signs. As a rule though scarring is really minimal with chicken pox.
