Swollen Tonsil & Swallowing Difficulties: ENT Assessment & Tonsil Stones
QuestionHi-
I have asked you before about my swollen tonsil. I have since gone to an ENT to help put me at ease. The ENT said that he was not concerned about the tonsils being asymmetrical. He compared the tonsils being 60/50 proportionally with 100/100 being fully enlarged but equal. He thought the feeling I was getting when swallowing (pill in my throat) was from tonsil stones although you cant see any but I have had them in the past. I could swear the tonsil has been enlarged for months now. So the question I forgot to ask was do tonsil grow asymmetrical due to normal causes? He mentioned Lymphoma would be rapid swelling rather than months and if I were to notice rapid swelling to come back in. I assume the tonsil will always be that big and I will have to deal with it.
Thanks
Answerthe tonsils grow asymetrically like other matching organs do.... not necessarily due to an external stimulus.... we aren't symmetrical perfectly with anything. There may have been different stimuli to the different tonsils but overall, you aren't going to get a definite answer but having ones of different sizes is the norm as compared to perfectly symmetrical ones.....
