AnswerShannon,
A whiplash injury is a neck or cervical strain. The muscles of the neck that support the head have been injured and produce inflammatory mediators... pain and spasm in sue which causes a cascade of more inflammation. It is usually broken with both pain killers, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and muscle relaxants. Some also advocate hot compresses. Typically one is down for 3 to 7 days. Depends on your overall health, fitness and underlying illnesses.
