Answer
You don't say how long it's been since you had your last baby, or how long you've been on the metformin.  The usual dose of metformin for PCOS is 1500 mg/day, or three 500 mg pills per day.  It can take a while for your body to get back into shape, though, depending on just how far off your hormones were.  I know when I first started metformin therapy, it took several months before I had my first period, and almost a year before I was having regular monthly cycles.  If you need reassurance that the metformin is doing its job, you can ask your doctor for periodic blood profiles to check your hormone levels.  If you had a baseline check done when you were diagnosed, you should be able to see your testosterone, insulin, and triglyceride levels all going down during metformin treatment.  As long as you see this, your treatment is working, and your body will resume menstruation when it is ready.

Be sure to discuss with your doctor the advisability of continuing your metformin treatment after you become pregnant.  Studies have shown that metformin therapy can drastically reduce the rates of both miscarriage and gestational diabetes in PCOS patients when continued throughout the pregnancy.

Good luck!
