Understanding Dilation and Effacement: What to Expect During Labor

Question
I am 2 cm dialated and 80% effaced, I have had contractions the past couple of days, nothing real strong or consistant.  I lost my mucus plug 2 weeks ago today, right now I am having lingering back pains but nothing major yet.  Could this mean I will be going into labor soon??  How long can you lost your mucus plug before you go into labor??

Answer
You will go into labor as soon as your baby is ready to be born.  All this activity means that your body is gearing up for the big event, but there's no way to predict exactly when that will happen.  Even losing your mucous plug doesn't mean much, because it can regrow.  Be patient, and you will see your baby soon!
