Understanding Conception: A Guide to Getting Pregnant
QuestionHow do you get pregnant?
AnswerA woman has a menstrual cycle every 28 days, on average. The cycle starts with the menstrual period, where the blood is sloughed off of the walls of the uterus. After this, one of the ovaries matures an ova, or egg, to be released. Approximately 13-17 days after the cycle has begun, the ovary releases the mature ova and it enters the fallopian tubes. A sperm cell- either intoduced via sexual intercourse or implanted- burrows its way into the mature ova and immediately the cell begins to multiply. It makes its way down the fallopian tubes and into the uterus where it implants itself into the blood on the walls. Once the zygote has established itself into the uterus, this is known as pregnancy.
A very quick, simplistic explanation but there you have it. =)
