QuestionQUESTION: i have had 3 previous ceasers and after my 3rd doctor told me not to have anymore due th adhesions + + +. I would like to know what are my major risks. I really want a 4th child but dont want to leave 3 behind. Are 4 cesears way to risky should i just forget about having 4 kids? I might be pregnant again and dont know what to do please help>
ANSWER: Extensive adhesions can make additional surgery more difficult, because it can take more time to reach the uterus. Also, every surgery will increase the extent of your adhesions. However, I do know that many women have had more than 3 cesareans. The key is finding an excellent surgeon to support you and who will do a great job of cleaning and stitching you up after each surgery. Check around for second and third opinions, and see if you can find a doctor with more experience in your situation. Good luck!

QUESTION: I spoke to a doctor recently at the Royal Womans he has performed many cesears like mine, he told me the major risks were knicking my bladder and/or hysterctomy. He also said that if he found that it was too difficult entry because of adhesions they would perform a vertical cut. My question is how life threatning is a repeated ceserean?
AnswerHonestly, not very, either for you or the baby. I could give you a complete list of all the risks and numbers, but the truth is that you have less than a 1% chance of serious injury or death no matter how you deliver. Even if you were to attempt a VBAC after 3 c-sections, your risk of complications is still around 1%. With extensive adhesions, you have a somewhat increased risk of bleeding and possible hysterectomy because the surgery will be longer and more complex, but again, the total risk is still very small.
