Understanding Double Mastectomy & Lymph Node Removal After BRCA2 Gene
QuestionMy entire family has the BRCA2 gene, my mother dying at 34. I am 61 and have elected for a double mastectomy. Do they take my lymph nodes since I don't have cancer. Will my underarms be touched. I am an avid bowler and want to continue with this sport, will it be possible? I throw a 15lb ball. My doctors wants me to wait 6 months to have reconstruction done.
AnswerIf you do not have cancer there is no reason to touch your lymph nodes! Your arms will certainly not be touched! You probably will be able to continue with your sport, just take it easy some time after surgery. For more details on that talk to your surgeon - I'm not a surgeon and I know very little of bowling. You should follow their advice! Good luck!
