QuestionQUESTION: im 32 yr old. 6 months ago i had one small painfull abcess in my axilla. surgeon told me its due to deodarant. i took ciprofloxacin and its gone. now again i got this problem. i used a razer to shave that area. so i went to another surgeon . he also said its due to razer and deodarant. its just sweat gland block and selling. i took the same antibiotic and its gone now. but i was still scared about ca. breast. so i did one mammogram and u/s. radiologist said there are some fibroadenomas. nothing suspicious for cancer. 2.5 cm in lt. breast and 2 small in rt. breast.no palpable mass seen.breast look normal also. but there is evidence of lymph node enlargement in lt. axilla. i had flue this time when i did this tests. i went to a breast cancer specialist he said nothing to worry . fibroadenomas are very common. but im still scared. should i worry too much? i have no family history of cancer. i have a 3yr old son,but couldnt breast feed. pls. help. im very very scared .
ANSWER: This is not an uncommon problem even without shaving or deodorants. Fibroadenomas are NOT cancer! Nor are your arm pit problems in any way connected with cancer. Of course you run the same risk as any woman of developing breast cancer during your life time (currently a risk of 12-13% unless you are Afroamerican, then the risk is a little higher). If you had the flu it is normal for lymph nodes to be a little bigger. I do think you worry too much, and that will not help you. If you do a regular at least once a year check up of your breasts including mammography, ultrasound breast scans, MRI breast scans and if necessary needle biopsies of any unclear lesions just as you should have a regular gynecological check up at least once a year including pap smear from your cervix & ultrasound scans of your ovaries etc. You have done what you can! And that should bring down your health risks quite a bit! Good luck!

QUESTION: DEAR DOCTOR,MY MAMMOGRAPHY REPORT IS,MULTIPLE LOW OPAQUE WELL DEFINE LESIONS IN BOTH BREASTS. LARGE ONE WITHIN LEFT LOWER QUADRANT SURROUNDING BY HALO SIGN . TWO SMALL MASS IN RIGHT BREAST AT PERIAREOLAR AND RETROAREOLAR REGION.MODERATE AMOUNT OF FIBRO GLANDULAR TISSUE. NO SKIN THICKENING,NO STELLATE LESION, NO NIPPLE RETRACTION, NO MICRO OR MACRO CALCIFICATION.
ULTRASOUND OF BOTH BREAST SHOWS, MOLTIPLE HYPOECHOIC WELL DEFINE SOLID MASS RIGHT ONE [.10 O'CLOCK POSITION PERIAREOLAR REGION MEASURE{0.57*0.54}CM.
RETROAREOLAR REGION 6 O"CLOCK{1.3*0.68}]
LEFT BREAST MASS[4-5 O"CLOCK POSITION {2.4*1.19}CM
NO DUCTUS DILATATION WITHIN BOTH BREAST.
FINDINGS ARE CONSISTENT WITH MULTIPLE BENIGN MASS LESION
MULTIPLE FIBROADENOMA.
DOCTOR, WILL YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THIS REPORT? I WENT TO ANOTHER RADIOLOGIST ALSO TODAY WITHTHIS REPORT . SHE SAID NO NEED TO REPEAT MAMMOGRAM. CAN REPEAT ULTRASOUND AFTER 6 MONTHS. IM STILL DEPRESSED. NOT ABLE TO CONCENTRATE. PLS REPLY.
ANSWER: There are NO signs of cancer in these reports! What they show are most probably multiple fibroadenomas which are NOT dangerous! If you want to have that confirmed further you can demand 2 things: 1. MRI breast scans and 2. needle biopsies of your lesions. Since there are quite a few of them that is probably best, simplest & easiest done as ultrasound guided thin needle aspiration biopsies! However in my opinion these measures are probably not really necessary in your case at the moment. Good luck!

QUESTION: hello doctor, some times i have some discomfort (slight pain)in my right breast and axilla area.acoording to my report i have 2 small lesions in retroareolar and peri areolar region. is it normal to have fibroadenoma in this area? its not easy for me to get an appointment with the doctor here.im working in a hospital . i have insurance in this hospital only.here it takes atleast 2 weeks to get an appointment. can you please help me with my doubt?
AnswerFibroadenomas can be located anywhere and everywhere in the breasts! They are also frequently associated with pain, tenderness and soreness in the breasts. Breast cancers are usually not associated with those symptoms!
I can not see any cause for alarm!
