Understanding Phyllodes Tumors: Benign vs. Malignant

Question
I recently had a core biopsy on a mass in my right breast. The doctor said it was benign but looked like a rare tumor called a phyllode. The exact diagnosis stated Fibroepithelial Neoplasm with benign proliferative changes. 217

This may represent a fibroadenoma with an exaggerated intracanicular growth pattern versus a benign phyllodes tumor.  Clinical and radiologic correlation are recommended.

I am scheduled to have it removed this week. I know my doctor is the best in my hometown, but i am wondering should I drive a couple of hours to a breast center that handles only breast disease? Can there still be a chance it is malignant?  I need answers quick because I do not want it to grow. Just confused about what to do.

Answer
Your lesion should be removed! The important thing is to make sure that it is completely removed. But since it also should be sent to a pathologist in order to know exactly what it is we will also have it checked that everything has been removed. So I think your doctor can take care of this. Good luck!
