Spotting After Missing a Birth Control Pill: What to Do?

Question
Ok, I'm on the pill to control my period and the pill I've been on has actually stopped my period since I've started taking it and my Dr. says it's fine.  Well I was on the last week of active pills when I accidentally lost one.  I decided to just skip it and wait until the following day b/c I didn't have another pack to start.  Well the following day I took the pill at regular time but then I started getting cramps the following day which I haven't had in over a year and then I started spotting.  I still had 2 days left of act and ended up getting a new pack.  The day I started cramping I took two pill, hoping it would make up for the one I forgot two days before but it didn't stop the cramping.  I started the placebo pills yesterday and today I had a little blood, which I'm assuming is my period.  WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?  I'm a little upset b/c I'm leaving on a vacation in 8 weeks and I'll be away for 2 weeks and I was looking forward to not having my period and now I'm scared it's all screwed up. Should I stop the placebo pills now and start a new pack or should I just finish this pack and hope that all goes back to normal (well my normal) next month.

I know this sounds stupid b/c you should get your period, but I was so use to not having it and I get such bad cramping that I'm mad that this happened so close to my vacation.  Please give me any info you can.

Thanks

Answer
I'm sorry you are disappointed about this turn of events.  However, the pill doesn't actually fix the problem you are having with cramps, etc.  It just covers it up and the problem is still there.  I don't know what to tell you about trying to get back to some kind of pattern again.  It might work, it might not.
