QuestionHi, im a 20 year old who has just recently gone back on the pill. I was on it for 2 years, then went off for 5 months, and started taking a new brand, Alesse. Im 2 weeks into the first pack, spotting a bit, and what i read in the box is that after the first 7 days of active pills, i could have sex safely without a condom, and not become pregnant. My boyfriend and i did just that- on day 8 of taking the pills, we ditched the condoms. Today i went to my doctor to get another refill, and she told me i should have waited a month to stop using condoms, and that im probably not pregnant, but to come in if i miss my period...But the instructions on the box said after 7 days, i should be ok...What is your opinion? Should i be worried? Im terrified.
AnswerHi Tessa,
Lots of Dr.s will recommend you wait a month before attempting intercourse without a condom. And that is because more women become pregnant their frist month on the pill than at any other time. It is something that occurs for diffrent reasons. The first month, many many women forget pills, or don't take them right, just because they are not used to it. Plus, some womens bodies just don't respond to the pill that first month. That's rare, but in can happen.
If your pill pack said 7 days, then that is what you can trust. Each pill brand is a little diffrent, and since thats what yours said, and you followed the instructions, I think you should be fine. Your Dr. is probably just being cautious. I think you will be fine, and have very little to worry about.
Good Luck to you, and Thanks!
Drea Jean
