QuestionHi, I have had irregular cycles for years, I have had a lot of pain and clotting, and bleeding over the last few months, which sparked me to go to a gynocologist, she delivered my son, and has treated my mom for years, so I do trust her... almost... She ran some bloodwork, did a ultrasound, with transvaginal also, and said that everything looked fine, and wants me to take birth control pills for about 3 months to regulate my periods, and says that after that it should be easy for me to concieve. I have a hard time understanding this concept. Any ideas, does this make sense?
AnswerThis is a common first therapy for women who want to regularize their cycles. This makes perfect sense. She will probably take you off of the pill after the three months and tell you to go ahead and try to become pregnant.
My additional advice to you is to contact your local natural family planning provider and learn about your cycle. You mucus discharge and temperature can help you find the most fertile time in your cycle. Of course you will not, most likely, become pregnant while on the pill. But when you stop, understanding your cycle will be of great value to you.
