Birth Control Effectiveness: What to Do After Missed Pills & Plan B

Question
QUESTION: I usually take my pill between 8-10pm.  Friday, I did not take my pill, and had sex about 4am Saturday.  I took my pill at 10am on Saturday.  Saturday evening I did not take my pill, but took it at 9am on Sunday and then Sunday evening around 9pm I did again and Monday I took it at the correct time.  On Sunday at 11am I took Plan B.  I am very nervous of becoming pregnant, what are the chances?

ANSWER: Hi Casie,
I think the chance of being pregnant are very small.  It can happen, but  you were only 12 hours late and also took Plan B.  If I were betting I'd put a lot of money that you're not pregnant.

QUESTION: Thanks for the answer to my question...I do have a follow-up question. I am on LoEstrin birth control and rarely have a period (if I do it lasts a day or 2 max).  When can I take a pregnancy test to see if I am pregnant, as missing my period will not be indicative because it happens so frequently.  If I am to have a period it should occur in 1 week.

Answer
A pregnancy test will usually be positive 2 weeks after you get pregnant.  This is also about the time you might have some symptoms.  Since you don't usually have periods, I'd just try to not miss any pills and assume you're not pregnant.  Then if you get symptoms like nausea or frequent urination, think about a pregnancy test.
