Understanding Compulsive Pregnancy Desires: A Psychological Perspective

Question
hello I am 23/female.
I am single never married.
and most of the time, I hate kids.

but sometimes, like around my period especially, or when a friend becomes pregnant or has a baby, or I see newborns, I go into a depression and have almost an overhwelming desire to be pregnant. I get so depressed sometimes that I cry because I long for a baby.

but then after a day or so of depression, I am back to normal.

is this normal for a woman to feel the need to be pregnant?

I'm currently not financially stable and couldn't care for a baby so I am not out trying to be pregnant. but I still get the desire to be.

Answer
Most women have mixed feelings about having babies, and it sounds like yours are a little stronger than most.  The maternal instinct has continued the human population for thousands of years.  If you have a chance, it might be helpful to discuss your feelings with a therapist.  If not, talking about your feelings with a good friend may help.  However, it's very important that you become pregnant only when you're sure over a long period of time that that's what you really want.
