Irregular Periods While on Birth Control: Causes & What to Do

Question
I've been on birth control for almost a year now, and my period was regular up until this month.  I started a week before I was supposed to, and have been bleeding for a week, and it doesn't seem to be slowing up.  Nothing has changed in my diet or daily routine in the past month, at least not enough to alter my period.  Do I need to look into a stronger dosage of birth control?  I'm just curious as to why things are different now when my pill seemed to be working fine all this time.  Thanks!!

Answer
Hello Amy,

Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical professional so I recommend that you consult your physician. In my opinion, I don't think hormonal birth control is healthy for our bodies, as women. If you get a stronger dosage of birth control, it would mean putting even more hormones into your body. I can't say why that you would suddenly have this change. I would suggest diet or lifestyle but you have already dismissed that. Did you by any chance miss a pill or take it at a different time? Is there any chance that you could be pregnant? I would be interested in finding out what happens with you so if you would email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com I would appreciate it.
Hope to hear from you when you find out what's going on.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
