Emergency Contraception & Placebo Cycle: Understanding Risks & Options

Question
Hi Ms. Archer,
My girlfriend had just ended her pill cycle with the placebos, and accidentally started the next pill cycle with the placebos again, effectively making her placebo intake continuous. She did not menstruate during this period. We had unprotected sex in almost the middle of the second placebo round for three days. We found out about the mistake on the third day, and we bought Emergency Contraception, which she ingested on the 71st hour after our first round of unprotected sex. The next day, she started on the active pills again.
We're scared about pregnancy, what are our chances? Why didn't she menstruate during the long placebo period? I appreciate all your help.

Sincerely,
Anxious

Answer
Hello,

What has happened since you posted your question? I don't ever recommend the Emergency Contraception. You can find out more about the effects and dangers at http://www.optionline.org/map.html
Please read that article. Did she have bleeding after the pills? You should consult a doctor to find out if she is pregnant. I can't tell you the chances but you can get help at a local pregnancy resource center. Go to http://www.optionline.org or call 1-800-395-HELP. Or try
