QuestionOn July 30th I had unprotected sex. Three or four days later I
decided to try using the patch. I read the instructions wrong
so then decided to take the patch off and stop using it. Now I
have received my period on August the 12th, and it hasn't
stopped. Do u know what this might mean?
AnswerIt probably means that you hadn't had a real period for a while, and the lining of your uterus was somewhat thick. The patch, like the pill, will bring on a period when you stop using it. So taking it off brought on a period. The period is lasting so long because you hadn't been using it for the full 3 weeks, so it didn't have time to convert the uterine lining such that the lining all cleaned off with the period. You could probably clear up the bleeding by putting the patch on for the full 3 weeks. When you take it off, you'd get a real period that would be self limited. It might be better to see your doctor to have it checked out. The fact that it's bleeding this long probably means you had too much build up of the uterine lining before starting the patch.
