Mirena IUD: Managing Pain, Bleeding, and Ovarian Cysts
QuestionMy mirena IUD was placed in March of 2010. The first few months after placement I have had random irregular periods that are VERY painful, but since they have stopped until recently. I have never had a child and never been on any other type of birth control. I am also prone to ovarian cysts, even before I had my IUD placed. My boyfriend is concerned I might be pregnant due to the intense abdominal pain I am experiencing. I have been to the ER multiple times due to past periods while on Mirena. I am also having unusual hair growth and other health problems, I am not sure if they are connected in some way, but should I be concerned by the way this type of birth control is affecting me?
AnswerHello,
There are reported side effects from the Mirena IUD. These that you mention could possibly be side effects but check with your doctor. Did you find out if you are pregnant? Let me know. My private email address is CHERYL51@aol.com so please keep in touch. Yes, it is worrisome that you have been to the ER because of this.
Consider a non-hormonal method of birth control or even practice abstinence if possible.
