Delayed Period After Starting Birth Control: What to Expect?
QuestionHi!
This is currently my second month of being on birth control, and I began to take the 'sugar' pills of my birth control pack on Tuesday, therefore expecting my period Wednesday. It's now Friday and I don't have my period yet. Yesterday though, I did have some cramping and I did bleed slightly, but it just stopped and I haven't bled since. I did have sex on Monday (only time this month) and I'm concerned if I could be pregnant? I don't know what to think. The condom didn't break or anything, but you never know. I'm just concerned whether it is normal to barely have a period with the first few months of birth control, or for it to be late, OR whether I should go check if I'm pregnant.
Your opinion would be appreciated.
Thank you!
AnswerHi Cathy,
Yes, the birth control pill can alter your normal cycle so you wouldn't know really what to expect at this point. Did you ever get your period? If not, or you still are uncertain, please contact a pregnancy resource center. They can give you a free pregnancy test and free advice and support. Also, you can get pregnant using a condom, because they are not 100% safe in preventing pregnancy. No birth control method is, even the pills. I usually advise young people ( I don't know your age) to consider abstaining from sex if worried about sexually transmitted diseases or pregnancy. Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and let me know what is happening.
