Cerazette Side Effects: Persistent Bleeding & What to Do
QuestionHi, I am a 39 year old woman who has recently started taking Cerazette (a progesterone only mini pill)and would appreciate your expert advice. I have been on this pill for 11 weeks now and have had continual bleeding throughout- mostly staining and spotting but with proper breakthrough bleeds when my period would normally be due. I have been told this is the only contraception I can use because of my age and limited medical history (I was adopted so have little information about family history). I just want to know if this is normal and if it will continue. I have been told it can take 3 months for your system to get used to this pill but to be honest it is beginning to become a bit depressing. I have never been on a contraceptive before now and really don't want to consider a coil. I would appreciate any advice or insight you may have. Thank you for your time.
AnswerJacqui,
I presume that it is necessary for you to be on a contraceptive? I don't normally recommend any kind of hormonal birth control method. The reason is because of these side effects and risks, such as you are mentioning. I can't tell you for sure if your symptoms are normal. You are right to not consider the coil. The other options are condoms or natural family planning. There used to be a lady here on allexperts.com that answered questions about Natural family planning. You might see if you can find her on here or go to http://www.ccli.org
