Advocating for the Legal Prohibition of Abortion: Political Actions and Strategies
QuestionI am pro-life, and I would like to know your opinion on what our country needs to do in order to make abortion completely illegal. What kinds of political actions do we need to take?
AnswerSteven,
Ideally, I would like to see abortion made illegal, but realistically I doubt this ever happening. Ethically, i do not believe in compromise as a great solution, but small steps may be all that can be done for now. I would be surprised if the Supreme Court would take on the abortion issue to such an extent as would be necessary to in essence overturn Roe vs Wade. States are going to have become more strict on when to allow abortions. If one state does that, others may follow. Focus not only on national political leaders, but focus greatly on the state legislators, studying and contacting them before they run and after they are in office. On the Federal level, we need a president who we can trust to fill Supreme Court slots with conservative thinking judges. Our current president may or may not come through on this issue. Looks good so far, but I could only guess how he will go when the next slot opens up, if the president is still in office at that time.
Keep active, contact your state legislators, and keep informed. Let the morally-sound side of the issue be heard. Stay strong and firm with your beliefs and be willing to share them.
Best wishes.
