QuestionI had an abortion yesterday and there were a few things that made me feel not right about what happened...
I went to the clinic and first they wouldn't let my boyfriend back there with me (I also had one 7 years ago and they did let my male friend back) I was put in a "holding room" for what seemed like hours. They did an ultrasound that confirmed I was pregnant and explained what they were going to do.. The Dr. came in an did a breast exam (with out gloves)and they said they were going to give me a local but they completely knocked me out.
I guess I'm just bothered that how they went about things just didn't seem normal, I didn't get to see that everything was sterile and done properly, and to top things off they put a tampon in me.
I was told before hand that I would have a 30- 60 minute recovery time and would also be monitored but I was whisked out of the surgery room, sat in a chair and my boyfriend was then called to pull the car around and I was gone. I don't remember the procedure, getting dressed or even the car ride home I was still so groggy.
Also I had a very small amount of blood and today (the day after) I'm not bleeding at all..
Does any of this sound odd to you or am I just being paranoid since it wasn't anything like the experience I had 7 years ago?
AnswerHi, Amanda,
I don't know what to tell you, since I wasn't there. But nothing would surprise me. Nothing at all. It sure doesn't sound professional to me. I even wonder about the ultrasound and what they said about it. Also, I don't like the sound of that breast exam. I wish I could say more.
Keep a close eye on yourself, and have your boyfriend do the same. At the first sign of any problems, talk to a doctor or go to the emergency room. You might want to arrange for some basic checks: ultrasound, pregnancy test, examination. Right now, the pregnancy test might not mean anything, but in a few days it might.
I don't know what to tell you about the lack of bleeding, either. That sounds strange to me. It could pick up. Make sure it's not unduly heavy; this can be a serious concern.
The fact that you were knocked out could either mean they misrepresented to you what they were going to use, or that you are a lot more sensitive to anesthesia than average. It's important to find out which. I don't know if they would let you have a copy of your medical records. They ought to. Then you should take those to a doctor and discuss them.
Go with your instincts. You have them for a reason. Please keep in touch. Things may become clearer, and then I may get some ideas of what to tell you.
