I had my period Aug 9-12 ...we messed around on the 15th i got my period after Sept 6-9 ...it's Oct 5th and I havent seen my period as yet. Can i still take the Abortion pill? Upon till when can i take it?

ANSWER: Hello, Jan,

Even a drop of fluid in your vagina can cause pregnancy, so whether or not your boyfriend later released more seminal fluid isn't really an issue. If you don't want to have a baby, it is wisest to abstain altogether from intercourse. "Protection" doesn't work, either. There are other ways to express affection, although penetration into any opening in your body can cause you to contract a nasty disease. Your boyfriend really owes it to you to protect you, and not use you for self-gratification. You deserve better.

Normally, a woman ovulates 14 days before the onset of her next period. You are out of range for having become pregnant on that occasion. The symptoms you mentioned could easily be due to some kind of disease, either flu or something more serious, such as a sexually transmitted disease. Some women don't experience nausea with pregnancy. I never did, and neither did other women in my family. But the sign most commonly associated with pregnancy is when the breasts become tender and start to grow. You didn't mention that. But the tiredness, vaginal discharge, and feeling warmer, if it means a fever, could easily be the result of an infection in your reproductive organs.

Lack of a period can be due to different things, including stress and inadequate diet, especially a vegetarian diet. If you happen to have a sexually transmitted disease, that could also be a factor.

The abortion pill is VERY dangerous. Normally, two different medications are used. The second of these, Cytotec, is used off label. The manufacturer says a pregnant woman should never take it! Anybody who would give it to you is either ignorant or committing malpractice. Take your pick. This is because the drug can kill a woman within hours. Women can bleed to death after taking it, or they can develop toxic shock syndrome, which kills so fast that emergency room doctors can't even diagnose it before it kills the woman. In any case, if you were pregnant from activity on August 15, that would put you at 7 weeks gestational age. You're outside the range when the pill will "work" anyway.

Don't even think about getting a surgical abortion. Surgical abortion is very dangerous as well, and can kill a woman immediately, within days or weeks, or later on through complications of pregnancy and birth. It can also cause breast cancer. It can harm your future children, sometimes seriously. Abortion can also have a horrible effect on a woman's emotions, and leads to the possibility of violent death within the first year afterward, which is several times what it would be otherwise. The chance of a woman committing suicide is greatly increased, for example. And abortion can cause a woman to become paralyzed or unable to speak. It can infect a woman with disease. And there are many other kinds of harm it can cause. It's not worth it.

If your symptoms don't subside in a couple of days, please go see a doctor.

Please stay safe and don't even think about abortion. You are much better off carrying the baby, and if you are unable to care for your child, then you can choose adoption. Please let me know how you do.

QUESTION: Thanks for the advice and that was my first time engaging in such activities but it only takes 1 time i know. I'd also like to add that my breast have been feeling a bit tender recently, but i took a pregnancy test today and it came back Negative. All the other symptoms i stated have been subsiding little by little as the days go by. So the Vaginal discharge that i mention could be caused from a STD??

Answer
Hi, Jan,

It is possible that the discharge and some other symptoms could be caused by an STD. You should have it checked out. You indicated the messing around you did was in August. Correct? Given that the pregnancy test you took today was negative, it is unlikely you are pregnant. If you were, you'd be about 6 weeks pregnant. But the only way you are going to get to the bottom of this is to see a doctor. Please do let me know what you find out. Take care.
