Mifepristone Alone: What to Expect & Next Steps After Taking Mifepristone Without Misoprostol

hi.. i am a mother of a one-year old kid. as we had contact without contraception, i feared that i might get pregnant and bringimg up another child so early is not that easy. so i took a mifepristone tablet one week before the date i should get my periods. i started to bleed two days after i took the tablet. i am not having bleeding as i have durimg my regular periods. its very light and bleeds only twice or thrice a day. i did not have a mesoprostol tablet as well. what should i do? is it normal to get a lighter bleeding? is it compulsory to have mesoprostol if i have taken the tablet one week before the normal date of periods?

Answer
You may not need to take Misoprostol.  The bleeding may be the due to the Mifepristone and if there was an early pregnancy, blocking progesterone prevented implantation.  The only way to know is to take a pregnancy test.  You can take Misoprostol if the test is faint positive.

The use of Mifepristone as an Emergency contraception is an off label use but preliminary studies looked good.
