QuestionQUESTION: Does Misoprost delay regular periods?
Oral consumption of misoprost (combination of 4 tablets)- is it normal if bleeding does not occur?
If the pill is taken exactly 40 hrs after intercourse is it effective?
Should we watch out for any signs related?
ANSWER: Hello, Susan,
Misoprost is an ulcer medication. It's not intended to be used as a "morning after" pill. It does disrupt a woman's hormones. There is no telling how a woman's body will respond to such a powerful and toxic medication. I assume from what you said, you tried taking Misoprost, and had no results.
There are a couple of things you should think about. First, there is nothing "normal" about taking such a powerful medication. Our bodies weren't made for that. Misoprost can cause a woman to bleed to death. A lot of women in India are bleeding to death after taking these pills. You are taking it when you don't even know if you need it or not. This is not wise.
It sounds like you are living in fear of pregnancy. You deserve better. If you are not able to welcome a child, you should either stop having sex, if you're not married, or you should learn how to tell when you are fertile, if you are married. We don't even know what effect taking these pills will have on a woman's future children. Have a talk with your partner about this. He should protect you from living in fear, and from taking toxic medications. Please give this some serious thought. Don't mess with your body and your life like this. Please stay safe.
PS
Thank you for the rating and comment. It was very helpful.
As for the direct answers you seek, to a large extent, you seem to be asking me what is happening with your body in particular. Nobody can tell you that over the internet. Nobody can tell you whether or not Misoprost will delay YOUR period. Every woman reacts differently. Nobody can tell you, either, whether Misoprost will have the desired result in your case. If it does, you will probably never know it. You can always watch for symptoms, and test for pregnancy. But the problem is, the only person who can answer your direct questions would be a doctor who can examine and test you. I realize this may not be very helpful, but it's the best anyone can do over the internet. Take care.

QUESTION: I just wanted to thank you again for answering my questions. Your views on this is definitely not misleading. Your answer is not what i wanted to hear but rather what i need to know & it sure makes sense. I guess i will go in for a pregnancy test.
Also since i was not aware of the facts about misoprost, is there any side effects that i should watch out for? is there something that i have to do about the intake of misoprost?

Just so you are aware, the manufacturer of Misoprost specifically says it should NOT be used by pregnant women. This is because it can kill a pregnant woman. Most commonly, it may cause a woman to bleed to death, it may cause a massive infection and toxic shock syndrome, which will kill a woman within hours, and it can cause a woman's uterus to rupture. As early as it is with you, rupture of the uterus is very unlikely. However, bleeding to death and toxic shock syndrome are real possibilities. If it has been a couple of weeks since you took it, toxic shock syndrome is not so much of an issue, but if you were to start bleeding as a result of taking Misoprost, you would have to be very careful. Be sure and get some red hot peppers into your diet, or take cayenne. If you start to bleed profusely, see a doctor immediately.
Yes, women use it all the time to end pregnancy. But they are risking their lives if they do. There is no research currently on what Misoprost can do to future children if taken during pregnancy, or what it will do to a woman in the long run under that circumstance, either. I think researchers are afraid to find out, personally. If a woman ends a pregnancy at a few weeks, she will be much more likely to get breast cancer or auto-immune disease. This early, you won't be at risk for those problems, either. However, if you were to try it again later, you would be.
If you do discover you are pregnant, I recommend you go to a church in your area and ask them to help you find an organization that can help you with the problems you face. None of the choices will be easy, but from my experience and the experience of many others, abortion is the most difficult choice in the long run. I realize that the stigma against having a pregnancy out of wedlock is great. You have a couple of choices if this is the case with you. The first is to go ahead and get married fairly soon. I know that a wedding in India is a big deal, and it should be. But that would probably be the best answer. The second is to move to another part of India for awhile. If necessary, as difficult as it will be, you can give your baby up for adoption. There are people willing to adopt your baby. The women I have talked to, who have experienced both abortion and adoption, say that adoption, difficult as it is, is much easier to live with. If you are unable to find assistance in placing your baby for adoption, find the group that was founded and run by Mother Teresa. They will help you place your baby.
Good luck to you. Take care of yourself, and don't take any more chances. I would be happy to hear how things turn out.
