QuestionDear Orlando
Could you analytically explain to me the positive and negative effects of treatment environments on treatment?
AnswerGood morning Enzo. Thank you for your question. This is a fairly heavy question. It is also a very good question. I cannot give you a direct answer. But, I can give you a demonstration to the question. It reads as follows: Suppose your dentist gives you an anaesthetic before treating a dental cavity. You are told to relax and let the anaesthetic numb the tooth by desensitising it. If you are relaxed-the anaesthetic will work. However, if you are anxious or distressed-the anaesthetic will not work. That is because of the way our brains work. Your brain can over-power the anaesthetic. (In the case of surgery-your surgeon has an anaesthetist administer a very powerful poison which your brain cannot over-rule). All anaesthetics are poison. For simple work-a localised anaesthetic is all that is needed for your comfort. But, only if you not full of anxiety.
During massage-the theory is: the practitioner palpates an area and the clients brain registers pain. The message the brain sends out is simply this: that should not be painful-therefore it is traumatised-therefore, send cells to repair the tissue. The repairs are going on in any case. The only difference is the time taken to repair traumatised tissue. The massage speeds up the repair time. If the repairs are major-the brain simply makes the client lethargic and then tires to induce sleep. If that does not work-the body simply responds by making it painful for recruitment of those particular muscles. Recovery and remission could take one to two days-depending on the severity of the trauma (injury). That is why with injuries-practitioner should not massage (treat) the area with heavy massage at 8 tonnes of pressure per square centimeter!! That was the old school-the new school is very different.
Hence, if the environment does not induce relaxation-the treatment will not be all that successful. If the treatment is punctuated for a phone ringing, somebody else entering the room 'just to collect something, just for a minute, just for whatever'-the client is not going to relax. The treatment shall be a waste of time and money. Hence, I don't recommend massaging procedures in a home with children. Children need supervision and the security of seeing their mother or father. Telling a child that mummy will be out 'in a minute' is useless. The child will start to cry-mum's internal network starts to work. End of story. Massage is a waste of time. Similarly, if the practitioner does not make the client feel relaxed, the client will probably terminate the treatment quickly and should be given the opportunity to do so.
The Corrections Departments have found that if the holding cells in a Court House are painted Pink colours, the prisoners are far less likely to be troublesome. That is because our brains register a warm colour. Battleship gray or blue or white colours are cold colours and do not induce comfort. Hence, your question about the appearance of the environment is very important.
This has been a long answer Enzo. I am still not sure that I have answered your question. If you would like me to explain anything further-please feel free to contact me again.
Cheers from New Zealand.
