Gel Polish Undercoat: Is It Necessary?

It's not recommended to use gel nail polish without an undercoat. Here's why:

* Protection: The undercoat acts as a protective layer between your natural nail and the gel polish. It prevents the color from staining your nails, which can happen especially with darker shades.

* Smoother Application: The undercoat helps create a smooth surface for the gel polish to adhere to, leading to a more even and professional-looking finish.

* Longer Lasting Mani: The undercoat helps the gel polish last longer by creating a strong base for it to adhere to.

* Easier Removal: Using an undercoat can make gel polish removal easier and less damaging to your nails.

While you might get away with using gel polish without an undercoat for a short time, it's not ideal for a long-lasting, healthy manicure.

What to use instead of an undercoat:

If you're in a pinch and don't have an undercoat, you can use a clear base coat. However, a clear base coat is not as effective as a proper undercoat, and you may still experience some staining or uneven application.

Always follow the instructions on the gel polish bottle. This will provide the best results and help keep your nails healthy.
