FDA Guidelines for Acrylic Nail Replacement: Ohio Regulations & Best Practices

Question
Ms.Madden, Hello...I live in Ohio... Are there any FDA guide lines on how often you need to replace a full set of acrylic nails, rather then get a fill in? My mom said no such thing. I was told by my nail tech every 3 months. Why is it important to have this done? Please if you would explain if so..Thank you, Lisa  Anne

Answer
Hola Lisa Anne,
As far as I know, the FDA is NOT involved in any decisions for full set replacements.
This is a decision with the nail tech and the client. Sometimes acrylic becomes brittle and turns color depending on what product is used.
If the client uses a good cuticle oil then this will help prevent brittleness.
If you patronize the chop shops, their MMA liquid will turn a very ugly yellow color in about four to six weeks after the first application.
I hardly ever replace full sets unless the client picks them off or refuses to use cuticle oil.
It is not important to have this done. This could also be a ploy to make more money for the tech.
If they use a good product that does not yellow or become brittle, then you will not have to have your full set replaced.
Hope this helps!
Buenos dias
