QuestionHi there,
I was wondering if I could get any tips on how to look my age? I am currently 19 (2nd year college) and get mistaken for a junior highschooler quite frequently. I'm short (5'2"), wear bold green glasses and have a short-ish crop(cut to my ears), hazel eyes, fair-medium and combo skin.
I normally just wear either mineral foundation and concealer but find that it doesn't seem to last long at all - and no matter how much blush I put on, it only lasts an hour or so. With normal foundations, it seems cakey, and I've never figured out how to wear eye shadow without looking like I got beaten up, haha.
So as I'm clueless in the makeup department, I would absolutely love any tips on what to wear to look older and perhaps how to apply some of the makeup. Help would be appreciated so much!
AnswerHello Jess,
Usually, people want to look younger. You are quite a rebel in the area of beauty! But I understand your concern.
I am going to give you my opinion, and it's only my opinion, so feel free to ask for advice somewhere else.
Looking your real age is going to involve much more than just applying the perfect make-up on your face.
I cannot see you, but usually, unless they have acne problems, young women have a beautiful and radiant skin and do not need foundation or blush. All the young women I've met who tried to apply foundation and blush, looked fake and the result was more detrimental than beneficial in terms of look and beauty.
As a general guideline, try to stay with "natural colors" and stay away from anything blatant. If you really want some blush, use a powder which is tan. For your eyes, given that you have bold green glasses, I would use brown or black liners and mascara (I like Dr Hauschka) . As far as eye shadow, you need to experiment what works best. I love to go to Whole foods and try different colors. So have fun, bring your (mature) girlfriends and experiment what looks best!
At a more global level, you may want to evaluate your looks in terms of glasses (maybe the bold green ones make you look very young), and clothing and attitude. Reevaluate your tastes in terms of apparel and see if you're on the teenage side or on the 20s side.
As a personal advice, I suggest you to get a pearl necklace for christmas and start wearing. It will give a more mature look.
I hope you find this answer helpful.
Have a beautiful day,
Take good care
