9 Hair Mistakes That Instantly Add Years – & How to Fix Them

9 HAIR MISTAKES THAT MAKE YOU LOOK OLDER

  • Beautiful hair is one of the most important, natural beauty “accessories” that we have. Did you know that wrong haircut or wrong hair color can age you? Today, let’s look at some most common hair mistakes that can make you look older:

    1) Overload of hair styling products

Sometimes, ladies love layering hair gels, fixing sprays, volumizing mousses and shine sprays, hoping to achieve that perfect, bombshell, voluminous, full of shine hair, but instead, overloading your locks with hair styling products can lead to glued up mountain of hair on your head, which won’t make you look any younger. In order to avoid this “unnatural” overload of products, apply a light weight mousse on the roots of your (still wet) hair and then, blow dry it, as usual, finishing up with a touch of shine spray.

    2) Split ends

Split, damaged and frizzy ends can make your hair look dull and can, definitely, make you look older. Therefore, in order to avoid this problem, make sure to trim your locks regularly, at least, every 2 month, and do regular nourishing and hydrating hair masks; deep conditioning, rejuvenating hair treatments won’t hurt either.

    3) Going too blonde

Over bleached hair can can definitely make you look older, therefore, instead of going for the overall blonde color, ask your hair stylist to make you 2, 3 or 4 different types of highlights, it can help add dimension and, even, give an illusion of bigger volume. Moreover, blonde highlights are a lot less damaging for your hair, than bleaching your your locks completely over and over again every month.

    4) Going too dark

Avoid dying your hair super dark, because it can accentuate fine lines, under eyes dark circles and emphasize shadows on your face. If you want to go slightly darker, than your usual hair color, ask your hair stylist to make you soft low lights; it will look more natural, add dimension to your hairstyle and visually “frame” your face.

    5) Blunt, straight hair cut

One of the most common hair mistakes is when ladies do that all straight, plain haircut, which can not only add age, but also, can make your facial lines look even more evident. Instead of simple, blunt haircut, ask your hair stylist to try layered hairstyle that will suit your particular facial structure. Layers can add youthful and effortless dynamism to your hairstyle; thanks to different techniques of layering, your hair stylist can even slightly correct your face shape, making it look rounder or slimmer, depending on your preference.

    6) Cutting your hair too short or letting it grow too long

Both too short or too long hairstyles can add age. Also, according to many surveys and researches, men prefer ladies with long hairstyles, instead of short ones. An optimal hair length would be one, that slightly passes your shoulders. If you like shorter hairstyles, go for a bob, but avoid tomboy haircuts, if you are over 40 and you want to look younger.

    7) A too tight hairdo

When you pull your hair into a ponytail or make a tight, sophisticated hairdo – it’s true that this hairstyle can give you a kind of an instant face lift, but also, keep in mind that this type of hairstyle will draw attention to every little line you have on your face. Therefore, when you decide to go for an extravagant hairdo, make sure to keep it soft and leave some hair strands to fall on the sides of your face, it will add “careless” youthfulness to your style.

    8) Lack of volume

Flat, lacking volume hair can also make you look older. Avoid using hot hair straightening products on a day-to-day basis, because it can make your hair look dull, lifeless and dry. Moreover, if your hair is naturally thin, you should completely forget about using any hair damaging hot tools, because they can weaken your locks even more. Instead, use volumizing and texturing hair mousses to achieve slightly amplified hair volume.

    9) Cool tones add age

And finally, if you are serious about looking younger, avoid dying your hair with cool tones, because it will only add you age. If you are blonde – go for golden tones, instead of platinum or achy ones, if you are redhead – opt for brassy red instead of burgundy, and if you are brunette – chose warm brown instead of blueish black.
