Maintaining Red Hair: A Guide to Color Transitions & Cost-Effective Salon Visits

Question
Hi Nirvana,

I am in a pickle. I have naturally dirty blond/light brown hair, kind of mousy and nothing special. I've wanted to go red for a long time, and three weeks ago I finally did. It looks great, and my blue eyes really pop, but financially we can't afford for me to get my hair done every six weeks! So, my plan is to go back to the salon, get a chocolate closer to my own and ask for the "fade" look that's so popular right now, to have highlights start near the bottom of my hair (ala Chloe Kardashian). That way, I can touch up my roots at home and still get rid of my boring color.
What do you think? Any suggestions? I need something low maintenance, but my natural color is SO blah...
Thanks!

Ashley

Answer
Hi Ashley!

So whatever you do, DO NOT choose red as an option. Red is EXTREMELY high maintenance.
But you could go to Walmart and choose a color from the collection Revlon. Revlon is low maintenance and lasts pretty long compared to the salon dyes.
What makes salon dyes SO famous is how powerful the color presentation is. (I dyed my dark brown hair burgundy red at the salon, it turned the EXACT color). What people cant really register is how the color doesnt have a great long lasting stay.

Hope that helped!
