Balmkind Alpine Rose & Lysine Lip Balm Review: Hydration & Protection

Lip balm season is on it’s way again! The combination of central heating and cold winds has not great effects on the moisture barrier of the lips. Lips are simpler structures than the rest of your skin. The epithelium (skin) on your lips are only 3 layers thick in some areas, they don’t produce protective melanin or sebum to moisturise themselves. 

A lot of lip balms contain mineral oil or beeswax. These sit on the lips forming a barrier to moisture loss, so in a way they do help with hydration. If you’ve ever been struck with really chapped lips you’ll know they’re not easily sorted. It’s great when a lip product has more nourishment in it than just petroleum jelly. So Balmkind Alpine Rose and Lysine Lipbalm contains some nice moisturising agents and has active ingredients to protect the lip skin from UV damage and viral attack. 

There are a couple of potentially acne causing ingredients- the castor oil and beeswax, so I would be careful to only apply to the actual lips if this is an issue for you.

Balmkind Alpine Rose and Lysine Lipbalm Review

The packaging is a pretty clover pink. It comes in a tube with an angled applicator. This way is always better than a pot. A pot of skincare will start to go off as soon as it’s exposed to the air, and you introduce bacteria every time you touch it. 

The balm is lightly tinted a dark pink, but this doesn’t translate to the lip. The texture of Balmkind is like a gloss- it leaves a glossy finish but it absorbs better than a gloss. It has a pleasant light rose fragrance, I’m not a huge fan of heavily scented lip products and this is just right. 
I don’t get cold sores, fortunately, so I can’t say whether it prevents them. It definitely hydrated my lips really nicely. I had no problems with acne while using Balmkind, just lovely soft lips. 

Balmkind Alpine Rose and Lysine Lipbalm- Conclusion 

I’m really impressed with Balmkind. It’s ideal for no lipstick days, it gives the lips a little gloss and keeps them protected from the elements. It’s really hydrating and has stopped any lip dryness in it’s tracks. The active ingredients are really promising- the Alpine Rose, Pomegranate sterols, Licorice extract and oat oil. They give Balmkind Alpine Rose and Lysine Lipbalm an edge on other lip balms. If you struggle with chapped lips and or cold sores, I would definitely give Balmkind a try.
